Woven in, not printed

In a jacquard weave the pattern is formed during weaving by alternating threads of different colours. The motif is therefore in the fabric itself and not in a layer on top. That means it cannot wear off or crack like a print.

Why a dachshund

Omer, our shop dog, is a dachshund, so this motif is close to our hearts. If you do not know the dog, it remains a graphic animal motif in a calm tone, subtle enough not to read as dog merchandise.

Where it goes

On a sofa, in a reading chair, on a bed. Forty by forty is more compact than the usual forty-five, so it works well in an armchair or next to a larger cushion rather than as the main cushion on a three-seater.

Care

Follow the care label. Wool generally likes a gentle approach: a wool programme or hand wash, wool detergent and no fabric softener. Not in the tumble dryer, because heat makes wool felt and shrink. Leave to dry flat on a towel. In between, airing and plumping is enough.

Virgin wool is the wool of a living sheep, shorn and not pulled off a fleece. That makes the fibre longer and more resilient, and it is the reason a woollen cushion springs back after an evening of sitting where a cushion with a short fibre stays flat.
