Ceramic side table with orange-to-beige colour gradient

This round ceramic side table is more of an object than a piece of furniture. The shape is sculptural, the finish high-gloss, and the colour runs deep orange to soft beige.

Material and finish

High-quality ceramic with a high-gloss finish. Ceramic gives this piece a cool touch; the gloss gives depth to the colour. The warm orange-to-beige colour gradient reads differently at every angle, depending on how the light falls.

• Diameter 36 cm

Where it stands

Next to your favourite armchair at seat height, where the top is within reach. As a bedside table in a bedroom where you want something other than a cabinet with drawers. Or as a statement piece in the living room, on its own in a corner, with nothing needing to go on it.

Combining

Orange is a bold colour, so this piece works best in an otherwise calm interior with natural shades. Next to a sofa in unbleached linen or wool, it comes fully into its own. Do not put a second bright object next to it. If you like modern and daring design, you can also combine it with other warm shades such as terracotta and ochre.

Care

Wipe with a damp cloth. A high-gloss surface shows fingerprints and water rings; buff with a dry microfibre cloth. Do not use abrasives, because they can dull the gloss. Put a coaster under anything with a rough base, and do not slide keys or phones across the top.

What you need to know

Ceramic is hard but breakable. It will not survive a fall onto a hard floor, so put it where you are not constantly walking into it. Move it with two hands at the bottom and not by the edge of the top.
